Understanding Performance Testing of Electric Vehicle Charging Cables

With the popularization of electric vehicles and the increase in demand, the construction of charging facilities has become more and more important. The quality and safety of charging cables, as an important part of the connection between electric vehicles and charging piles, is particularly critical. To ensure the performance and reliability of electric vehicle charging cables, regular performance testing is necessary.

1. Test standards and requirements: Performance testing of electric vehicle charging cables usually follows international standards and industry specifications. One important test standard is the UL 2263 standard developed by UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a U.S. standardization organization, which specifies the performance requirements and test methods for electric vehicle charging cables. Other commonly used standards include IEC 62893 and JCS 4522, etc.

2. Electrical performance test: The electrical performance test of electric vehicle charging cables mainly includes the testing of on-resistance, insulation resistance, voltage withstand strength and electrical continuity. The on-resistance test is used to check whether the connection of the internal conductors of the cable is good, the insulation resistance test is used to assess the insulation performance of the cable, the voltage strength test is used to detect the ability of the cable to withstand high-voltage conditions, and the electrical continuity test is used to verify the stability and reliability of the cable connection.

3. Mechanical performance test: The mechanical performance test of electric vehicle charging cables mainly includes the evaluation of tensile strength, abrasion resistance and cold resistance. The tensile strength test is used to detect the tensile performance of the cable under stress, the abrasion resistance test is used to assess the durability of the cable's external sheath, and the cold resistance test is used to verify the reliability of the cable in low temperature environments.

4. Environmental adaptability test: EV charging cables need to be able to adapt to a variety of environmental conditions, so environmental adaptability testing is also essential. This includes tests on high temperature, low temperature, humidity, chemical substances, and so on. By simulating different environmental conditions, the performance and reliability of the cable in various extreme situations are evaluated.

5. Safety performance test: The safety performance of electric vehicle charging cables is crucial. Safety performance tests mainly include tests on fire performance, flame resistance and arc resistance. These tests are designed to ensure that the cables are effective in preventing safety accidents such as fire and electric arc under abnormal conditions.

Through regular performance testing of electric vehicle charging cables, potential problems can be identified and solved in a timely manner to ensure that the performance and safety of the cables meet the requirements. At the same time, the test results can also provide a reference for the operation and maintenance of EV charging facilities, ensuring the charging experience and safety of users.

OMG', as a new energy charging application technology provider with a market share of more than 17% in the electric vehicle charging market, has always attached great importance to the performance testing of electric vehicle charging cables and has been implementing them. By following the relevant testing standards and requirements, OMG's charging cables are evaluated for their electrical, mechanical, environmental and safety properties, which ensures the reliability and safety of the cables during the charging process.OMG's charging cables have been certified by TUV, CQC, DEKRA, IEC62893, EN50620, UL2263, JCS4522, and PSE. Regular performance tests can also identify and solve problems in time, which is important for the normal operation of electric vehicle charging facilities and the safe use of users.
