Common types of fast charging standards for electric vehicles

As the popularity and demand for electric vehicles increase, the construction of charging facilities has become increasingly important. In order to ensure the charging safety, charging efficiency and charging interoperability of electric vehicles, countries have developed corresponding charging standards. The following will introduce some common EV fast charging standards.

CHAdeMO (Charge de Move) is a fast charging standard jointly developed by Japanese electric vehicle manufacturers, which uses a special plug and communication protocol to support high power DC fast charging. It utilizes special plugs and communication protocols to support high power DC fast charging.CHAdeMO standard charging power and charging speed depend on the specific charging equipment and EV model. In general, CHAdeMO standard charging power typically ranges from 50 kW to 100 kW, depending on the capabilities of the charging equipment and the charging acceptance of the electric vehicle. When charging with the CHAdeMO standard, the charging time is relatively short, allowing a certain amount of power to be charged to an electric vehicle in a relatively short period of time.

CCS (Combined Charging System) is a standard that integrates AC charging and DC fast charging. It utilizes a design that is compatible with traditional AC charging plugs, while adding two DC charging plugs to support charging needs at different power levels, i.e., the Combined Charging System. The CCS standard has been widely used in Europe and North America, among others, and is gradually becoming the dominant charging standard worldwide. According to the CCS standard, the charging power and charging speed can vary depending on the compatibility of specific charging devices and electric vehicles. In general, the CCS standard can support higher power charging, including 150 kW, 350 kW and even higher. Charging speeds vary as a result. For AC charging, the CCS standard typically supports lower-power charging for home charging stations or commercial charging stations with relatively slow charging speeds. For DC fast charging, the CCS standard can support higher power charging, which can charge EVs in a shorter period of time and provide faster charging speeds. It should be noted that the specific charging power and charging speed are also affected by the limitations of the charging equipment and the capability of the battery management system of the EV. Therefore, in practice, the charging power and charging speed may vary depending on the charging equipment and the electric vehicle.

GB/T is a series of electric vehicle charging standards developed by China's National Standardization Administration. Among them, GB/T 20234.3 is China's fast charging standard, which adopts the design of DC charging interface. In September 2022, the standard review meeting of the National Automobile Standardization Technical Committee's Sub-Technical Committee on Electric Vehicles passed the revision of this standard. On the basis of the original DC charging interface technical program, the charging voltage and current ratings have been further increased, and technical requirements for temperature monitoring, active cooling and other high-power charging-related functions have been added. The GB/T standard is widely used in China and is an important charging standard for the Chinese electric vehicle market.

Tesla is a well-known electric vehicle manufacturer whose unique Supercharger charging network utilizes Tesla's own NACS charging standard interface. Compared to CCS, the Tesla NACS charging interface is smaller in size and naturally weighs considerably less. For women, it is more convenient to operate. Tesla's Supercharger charging stations offer high-power DC fast charging, which can charge Tesla electric vehicles in a short time to provide the power needed for long-distance driving. But the limitation of NACS is that it is not compatible with markets that have AC three-phase power, such as Europe and China. So these are markets where there is three-phase electricity, NACS is harder to apply.

These are some common EV fast charging standards, they differ in plug design, communication protocols, charging power, etc., but they all aim to provide a safe charging experience.OMG' provides high power liquid-cooled charging cables for fast charging needs, which are certified by the European Standard, and all the materials used comply with the RoHS 2.0 & REACH environmental standards. The products have the advantages of soft, good handfeel, bending radius less than 5D; oil resistance, acid and alkali resistance, abrasion resistance, tensile resistance, crush resistance, bending resistance of more than 50,000 times, anti-cracking, UV resistance, color stability; good flame retardant performance, etc., to ensure the safety and efficiency of transmitting electricity.OMG' focuses on the implementation of the customer's specific needs for fast charging, to provide a professional solution for liquid-cooled charging cables.
